Each Wednesday we share five FREE kid-friendly events happening over the next week. These events are all virtual, so you can enjoy them anywhere!

1. Storytellers Explore Our Nation's History At National Geographic Event

Join National Geographic Explorers, storytellers, and educators Ashley Lamb-Sinclair, Kristi Orisabiyi Williams, and Dr. Alicia Odewale to learn about little-known stories of people and places across the U.S., how to ask critical questions about your own community's stories, and deep dive into overlooked historical narratives from Tulsa, Oklahoma. This program includes a chance for children to have their questions answered in real-time! Feb. 2

2. Will The Groundhog See His Shadow? Watch Live!

Legend has it, of course, that if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, it’s six more weeks of winter weather. If he doesn’t? Good weather is right around the corner. Want to know more about the groundhog? Who doesn't? Here are five fast groundhog facts. Feb. 2

3. Celebrate Encanto's Antonio!

This Black History Month, Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture is celebrating Black children’s movie and TV characters. Join in a virtual program inspired by Disney Encanto’s Antonio and meet a Black veterinarian. Veterinarian Dr. Lauren Davidson will teach children about animal behavior and care and answer questions live! Then, create art inspired by Antonio’s colorful toucan friend, Pico. Feb. 4


Near the DC area? Don't miss the National Museum of African American History and Culture's “Afrofuturism: A History of Black Futures” featuring the Black Panther suit worn by Chadwick Bozeman. The exhibit opens on March 24.

4. The Groundhog Decides The Craft At This Free Event

Yep, we're back to the groundhog! There's a groundhog twist to this online event hosted by Splat Lab, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Splat Lab is letting the groundhog decide what craft kids do for this event! If Phil sees his shadow, you will be making Shaving Cream Snow to celebrate more winter!

5. Learn About Remarkable Reptiles

The National Zoo in Washington D.C. is hosting a free virtual program on reptiles! Participants will learn what makes a reptile remarkable and meet a couple of reptiles that call the Zoo home. Feb. 8
